In memoriam: Guðrún Ragnars Guðjohnsen

With sadness and gratitude, we remember Guðrún Ragnars Guðjohnsen (1934 – 2026), one of the founding figures of the Icelandic Sheepdog International Cooperation (ISIC). Gudrun’s vision, dedication, and love for the Icelandic Sheepdog helped lay the foundation for an international community devoted to preserving, protecting, and promoting this remarkable breed.

Through her commitment and hard work, she played an important role in bringing together people across countries who shared a common purpose: to ensure that the Icelandic Sheepdog would continue to thrive for generations to come. Her contribution was more than organizational. Gudrun helped nurture a spirit of cooperation, stewardship, and respect that remains at the heart of ISIC today. She understood that preserving a breed also meant preserving heritage, history, and the bond between dogs and the people who care for them.

Those who knew Gudrun will remember her for her passion, her determination, and her lasting devotion to the Icelandic Sheepdog community. Her legacy lives on in the strength of the organization she helped found, in the friendships built through that work, and in every effort made to safeguard the future of the breed she cared for so deeply. We honor her memory with appreciation and respect. Her work endures, and she will not be forgotten.
